“Investigating plants is a way of gaining knowledge about what it means to be in the world. Plants represent the most direct and elementary connection that life can make to the world”. Emanuele CocciaThe exhibition is a story about plants from a defined field on a west-facing plot of land in Denmark.

Collecting and pressing plants has always been considered a scientific method. For Munk & Jerichau, there is no preconceived idea of any specific result, just an open, slow and curious process with no purpose of a positive or beneficial outcome.

Maybe the project is mostly about beauty and an urge to capture the diversity in the things we normally just pass through.

The photogravure images are like pictures from a period but without marking any time in particular, rather as if time itself leaves its mark. As ghostlike outlines, the leaves of the flowers appear sharper in the pictures. It is a myopic and attentive way to be in the world.

The visual artists Birgitte Munk and Vibeke Jerichau are preoccupied with challenging the graphic space, the technique and the format, creating works and dialogue together. Since 2020, Munk & Jerichau’s collaborative work has resulted in several joint graphic series and exhibitions that focus on photogravure and the installation of works in space. They work at their own graphic workshop Munk Print Lab in Aarhus, Denmark, where they can experiment and work in large formats.
